AI Tools for Linux
68 tools in the catalog run on Linux; 59 of them have a free plan and 24 also offer an API. Below are the top 60, ranked by Effect score — how much each tool is used and rated, how widely it is listed elsewhere, and whether it is alive.
These AI tools run on Linux — as a desktop app, a command-line tool, a server you host yourself or a container. Linux support usually means a tool built with developers and self-hosting in mind: if it runs here, it can often run on your own server, behind your own firewall.

What to check in a Linux tool
- Check the packaging you need — AppImage, Flatpak, a .deb or .rpm, a Docker image, or a pip or npm package. "Runs on Linux" covers all of them.
- If you plan to self-host, read the licence: open source, source-available and free for personal use are not the same thing.
- For local models, check which GPUs and drivers are supported; a CUDA-only tool will not use an AMD or Intel card.
- See how updates arrive. A maintained package repository is easier to keep current than a binary you download by hand.
