Overview

About Google Antigravity

Google Antigravity is a family of tools for working with coding agents. Antigravity 2.0 is a desktop app that runs several local agents in parallel, groups chats into projects and can send scheduled messages. The Antigravity CLI is a Go-based terminal agent that runs shell commands and background subagents, and since Google's I/O event in May 2026 it has replaced the open-source Gemini CLI. The Python SDK lets you build custom agents on the same harness, and the IDE adds an agent manager and artifacts. It launched in November 2025 and is free for individuals with weekly rate limits.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Google Antigravity

medium confidence

Worth trying for developers who want Google's own agent stack across a desktop manager, terminal and IDE, especially anyone who relied on Gemini CLI and has to move. The free tier is enough to evaluate it, but heavy daily use points to a Google AI or enterprise plan. Teams standardized on another vendor's agent have little reason to switch yet.

Pros

  • Free individual tier that includes the CLI and the IDE
  • Four surfaces share one agent harness: desktop app, CLI, SDK and IDE
  • Business route through Google Cloud with spend caps and admin controls
  • Python SDK for building custom agents

Cons

  • Free tier uses weekly rate limits that are not quantified
  • Pro and Ultra pricing is not shown on the Antigravity site
  • Gemini CLI users were given a short migration window when it was retired

Best for

  • Former Gemini CLI users who need a supported terminal agent
  • Developers who want to run several agents in parallel from one desktop app

Not for

  • Anyone who needs transparent per-request pricing, since higher tiers do not list prices on the page
  • Teams that only want a single editor extension rather than a multi-surface platform

Watch out: Gemini CLI stopped working for Google AI Pro, Ultra and free users on June 18, 2026; anyone with scripts or CI built on it must migrate to Antigravity CLI or switch to API-key access.
