Use tool βAbout OpenCode
OpenCode is an MIT-licensed AI coding agent that reads, edits and runs code in your project from a terminal UI, a desktop app or an editor extension for VS Code, Cursor, Zed and others. It loads language servers automatically, can run several agent sessions on the same repository, and lets you share a link to any session. Models come from 75+ providers through Models.dev, including local ones, and you can sign in with a GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus/Pro account instead of paying per token. The maker, Anomaly Innovations, also sells Zen, a pay-per-request gateway of models it has tested for agent work, and Go, a low-cost subscription to open-weight coding models; both work with other agents too.

Pros & cons of OpenCode
OpenCode is the obvious pick for developers who want a Claude Code-style agent without being tied to one model vendor, and who are comfortable configuring providers themselves. Teams that want a single vendor contract, managed policy and support out of the box will find the enterprise side thinner than that of the big commercial agents.
Pros
- MIT-licensed with a very large contributor base on GitHub
- Runs in the terminal, as a desktop app and inside common editors
- Works with 75+ providers, local models and existing Copilot or ChatGPT logins
- Optional Zen and Go plans give curated models without separate provider accounts
Cons
- Output quality depends heavily on which model and provider you configure
- Go plans have per-model request caps that need checking against your workload
- Enterprise terms are only available through a sales form
Best for
- Developers who want to switch freely between Claude, GPT, Gemini and open-weight models
- Users who already pay for GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT Plus and want an agent on top
- Privacy-sensitive teams that need an agent which does not store code or context
Not for
- Non-developers looking for a hosted app builder
- Organizations that want one vendor to own model quality, billing and support
Watch out: Zen auto-tops up $20 whenever the balance falls to $5, so set a monthly spend limit before leaving long agent runs unattended.
