Open-source desktop voice studio: clone a voice, dictate into any app, run it all on your own GPU
Voicebox is a downloadable app that keeps voice work off the cloud. It clones a voice from a short sample, generates speech through seven text-to-speech engines, transcribes with Whisper, and dictates into any application on the machine. A stories editor arranges multi-voice narration on a timeline, and an effects chain adds pitch shift, reverb, delay and compression with saveable per-voice presets. Inference runs locally on Metal, CUDA, ROCm, Intel Arc or DirectML, or against a remote machine you control. An MCP server exposes it to agents. It is MIT-licensed and published by Spacedrive Technology Inc., the team behind the Spacedrive file manager.
The app is free forever with no account: cloning, every TTS engine, dictation and MCP all run locally at no cost. A Cloud backup and sync tier is announced at $12 a year and Studio at $48 a year, but both are marked coming soon and the page says the figures are not final.

Watch out: The bundled voice library is stocked with presets styled on real public figures; cloning an identifiable person's voice without consent is a legal problem in many jurisdictions regardless of what the app allows.
