AI Chrome Extensions

251 tools in the catalog come as a Chrome extension; 201 of them have a free plan and 82 also offer an API. Below are the top 60, ranked by Effect score โ€” how much each tool is used and rated, how widely it is listed elsewhere, and whether it is alive.

An AI Chrome extension puts a model inside the pages you already have open โ€” summarizing an article, drafting a reply in a web mail tab, translating or reading a page aloud โ€” instead of making you copy text into a separate app. The trade-off is access: an extension that works on every site can usually read every site you visit, so what it asks for at install matters as much as what it does.

What to check in a Chrome extension

  • Read the permissions before installing. "Read and change all your data on all websites" is what a page-reading assistant needs and also everything a bad actor would want; prefer extensions that can be limited to specific sites or to on-click access.
  • Check where the text goes. An extension that summarizes or rewrites a page sends that page to a server, and its privacy policy should say whether it is stored or used for training.
  • Look at the publisher and the last update on the store listing. Chrome has retired older extension formats, and an extension nobody maintains eventually stops working.
  • Chromium browsers such as Edge, Brave and Opera install from the Chrome Web Store, so a Chrome extension usually works there too โ€” but not in Firefox or Safari.
