Karakeep (formerly Hoarder) saves links, notes, and images and tags them automatically using AI, so a large personal archive stays searchable by full-text and by meaning rather than just by folder. It ships as open-source software you can self-host with Docker, or run on the vendor's own cloud starting on a free tier. Apps exist for web, iOS, and Android, plus Chrome, Firefox, and Safari extensions, a CLI, and a documented API with an MCP server for AI assistants. The company behind it, Localhost Labs Ltd, is registered in the United Kingdom. The project has drawn a large open-source following, with tens of thousands of GitHub stars and well over a hundred contributors.
Free cloud tier caps out at 10 bookmarks and 20MB of storage; the Pro tier unlocks 50,000 bookmarks and 50GB for $4/month (or $40/year). Self-hosting the open-source version has no license fee at all.
