Use tool ↗About TabMate
TabMate is a browser extension for people who keep dozens of tabs open. It sorts them into topic groups automatically, and you can define your own categories to steer what the classifier does, lock groups, pin and rearrange tabs, and nest groups into a tree. Keyboard shortcuts cover search and navigation, so most of it works without the mouse. It runs on Chrome and Chromium browsers including Edge, Brave and Vivaldi, on macOS and Windows. The maker, TabMate Labs, Inc., still calls it experimental and gates access behind a beta signup that hands you a Chrome Web Store link once the account is ready.

Pros & cons of TabMate
Auto-grouping tabs by topic is a genuinely useful trick, and being able to define your own categories rather than accept whatever the classifier picks is the detail most tab tools miss. Keyboard-first navigation suits the people who accumulate 80 tabs in the first place. The concern is momentum: it is still a gated beta and its legal pages have not been touched since December 2023.
Pros
- Groups tabs by topic automatically on install, with custom categories to steer it
- Nested groups and tree structures rather than one flat group list
- Full keyboard shortcuts for search and navigation on macOS and Windows
- Works across Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi and other Chromium browsers
- No cost and no paid upgrade is advertised
Cons
- Still an invite-gated experimental beta rather than a general release
- Terms and privacy pages have not been updated since December 2023
- Tab content is processed for the auto-categorization feature, which is a privacy trade
- Chromium only, and the site itself renders nothing without JavaScript
Best for
- People who routinely run dozens of tabs across several projects
- Chromium users who want grouping without manually dragging tabs
- Keyboard-driven workflows where reaching for the mouse is the bottleneck
Not for
- Safari and Firefox users, since only Chromium browsers are supported
- Anyone who wants a finished, supported product rather than a beta
- Teams needing shared or synced sessions across people
Watch out: You cannot install it directly from the Chrome Web Store — access is granted through a beta signup, and the project shows no public sign of movement since 2023.
