Use tool ↗About Bland AI
Bland runs AI agents that place and answer phone calls and extends the same agents to SMS and web chat. It targets regulated call work in healthcare, insurance and financial services, such as replacing IVR menus, qualifying leads, confirming appointments and staffing inbound queues, and states SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS compliance. The company built its own speech stack, so one per-minute rate covers the language model, transcription and synthesized voice, while telephony is billed separately on Bland's carrier at cost or on your own Twilio or SIP trunk. Developers drive it through a documented REST API, and enterprises can get dedicated, VPC or on-prem infrastructure.

Pros & cons of Bland AI
Bland quotes one per-minute rate that already includes the language model, transcription and voice, and publishes its compliance certifications, which makes cost modelling simpler than on platforms that pass through several vendor bills. Telephony is still a separate line, and the cheap entry rate comes with tight call caps, so real call-centre volume moves you onto the $299 monthly Build fee or an enterprise contract.
Pros
- Per-minute rate covers model, transcription and voice with no token charges
- Documented REST API with batch dispatch and in-call tools
- SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA with a BAA, GDPR and PCI DSS compliance stated
- Free start credits and an inbound number without a card
- Bring-your-own Twilio or SIP trunk is supported and waives transfer fees
Cons
- Concurrency, daily caps, voices and many call features are gated by tier
- Build adds a $299 monthly fee on top of minutes, and the mid-size Scale tier has been dropped
- Telephony is billed on top of the per-minute AI rate
- A closed in-house stack means less choice of underlying models
Best for
- Teams replacing IVR menus with agents that can be interrupted
- Outbound qualification and appointment confirmation at volume
- Regulated industries needing HIPAA or PCI paperwork on file
Not for
- Hobby projects that only need a handful of calls a month
- Buyers who want to pick their own model vendor per call
Watch out: Compare on total cost, not the headline rate: add telephony to the $0.14, and note that 10 concurrent calls and 100 calls a day on the entry plan is a pilot budget, not a contact centre.
