Developer platform for building and running voice phone agents, billed per minute of call time.
Vapi is the plumbing for voice agents: it wires speech-to-text, an LLM and a synthesised voice together, handles turn-taking and interruptions, connects to telephony, and gives you monitoring and orchestration once agents are live. You configure agents in a dashboard or through the API, and can bring your own provider keys instead of paying Vapi's model markup. It integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk, and carries SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI plus SSO and role-based access on the enterprise tier. Founded in 2020 by Jordan Dearsley and Nikhil Gupta in San Francisco, it raised a $50M Series B in 2026 at a $500M valuation and counts Amazon Ring, Intuit, ServiceTitan and New York Life as customers.
The Build plan is usage-based at $0.05 per minute of call time on top of whatever your speech, model and voice providers charge β unless you bring your own keys, in which case you pay Vapi's minute rate alone. Ten concurrent lines are included, extra lines are $10/month each. The Scale plan is an annual contract with a platform fee, committed volume and negotiated per-minute rates, and is where SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, SSO and RBAC live.
Use tool βThe default answer when a developer needs a voice agent on a phone line rather than a chat widget: it handles the hard real-time parts β barge-in, latency, turn-taking, telephony β and lets you swap in your own models. Enterprise adoption at Ring and Intuit is real validation. Cost forecasting is the hard part, because the platform fee is only one of four meters running.
Watch out: $0.05 per minute is the platform fee only. Unless you bring your own keys, transcription, LLM and text-to-speech all bill separately and typically dominate the total.
