Inline completions, chat and coding agents across the major IDEs
GitHub Copilot completes code as you type, answers questions about a repository in chat, and runs agents that can carry an issue through to a pull request and review the diff. It installs into VS Code, Visual Studio, Xcode, Neovim and the JetBrains IDEs. The paid tiers have shifted from a flat seat fee to a monthly pool of AI credits, so agent and chat work now draws down a balance that completions do not.
Free gives 2,000 completions and 50 chat requests a month. Pro is $10/month or $120/year and carries $15 of monthly AI credits; Pro+ is $39 with $70; Max is $100 with $200. Completions stay unlimited on paid tiers — it is agents, chat and premium models that spend credits, and overage runs $0.01 per credit once paid usage is switched on. Business and Enterprise are quoted by sales and are the only way to get IP indemnity and policy controls.
Use tool ↗Still the least disruptive way to put an assistant in front of a whole engineering org, but the credit meter means the $10 tier is no longer a flat-rate promise once anyone starts using agents seriously.
Watch out: Pro's $15 monthly credit allowance is the real limit, not the $10 price. Sustained agent work is what Max at $100/month exists for, and the jump between them is steep.
