Use tool ↗About Gemini
Gemini is Google's assistant app on the web, iOS and Android, running the Gemini 4 Argon, Pro and Flash models with text, image, audio, video and file input. The free tier includes image generation and editing, Deep Research, the Gemini Live voice mode, Canvas and custom Gems; paid Google AI plans raise usage limits, add video generation, Google Flow credits and the Gemini Notebook, and switch the assistant on inside Gmail, Docs and Vids. Subscriptions are bundled with Google One storage, and the same models are sold to developers per token through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.

Pros & cons of Gemini
Gemini earns its place by being the assistant that is already inside the Google products most people use: free Deep Research, image generation and a voice mode cost nothing, and the $19.99 Pro plan is where it becomes a work tool, with the top models, Gmail and Docs integration and 5 TB of storage on the same bill. Pick it if your life runs on Google; pick ChatGPT or Claude if you want the assistant separate from your email and documents, or care about a specific model family for a specific job.
Pros
- Free tier includes Deep Research, image generation and editing, Gemini Live and Gems rather than a crippled chat
- Paid plans bundle storage, Flow video credits, Notebook and YouTube perks, so the AI spend doubles as a Google One upgrade
- Multimodal from the start: images, audio, video and files as input on web and mobile
- The same models are available to developers per token on the Gemini API with a free Google AI Studio
Cons
- Plan tiers are defined by usage multipliers (2x, 4x, 5x, 20x) with no absolute numbers, so limits are hard to compare
- The useful work integration (Gmail, Docs) starts at $19.99, not on the $4.99 plan for Docs
- Prices and perks vary by country and the plans page localises silently, so quoted figures may not match what you see
- Model names and tiers change often (Argon, Pro, Flash, Flash-Lite), which makes it unclear what the free tier is actually running
Best for
- People whose email, files and calendar already live in Google and want the assistant inside them
- Research-heavy users, since Deep Research and a large context window are on every tier
- Households and students, with family sharing and a yearly student offer on the paid plans
Not for
- Teams that need admin controls and data commitments — that is Gemini Enterprise, priced per seat separately
- Anyone who wants to avoid their assistant being woven into a single vendor's search, mail and storage
Watch out: The Ultra plan comes in two prices ($99.99 and $199.99) that differ only in usage multipliers and Flow credits; Project Genie and the top rate limits sit on the dearer one, so read the column before buying the cheaper Ultra.
