Use tool ↗About Grok
Grok is xAI's chat assistant, available at grok.com, inside the X app and as iOS and Android apps. It answers with live access to X posts and the web, runs deep research, generates images and short videos with sound from text or photos, and has a voice mode. The free tier is capped; SuperGrok subscriptions in the app store list at $10 (Lite), $30, $100 (Plus) and $300 (Heavy) a month, and developers can call the same models through an API priced per million tokens, from $1.25 input and $2.50 output for grok-4.3 up to $2 and $6 for grok-4.7. xAI's own site refused automated fetches, so plan details come from the vendor's app-store listing and API documentation.

Pros & cons of Grok
Grok's distinctive asset is the firehose: live X posts plus web search, so for 'what is happening right now' questions it is often the quickest read. As a general assistant it is competitive rather than clearly ahead, and the subscription ladder has been reshuffled several times in 2026 with the vendor's own pricing page hidden behind bot protection, so check the in-app price before you commit.
Pros
- Live search over X and the web rather than a stale index
- Image and short video generation with sound inside the same app
- Voice mode and deep research included in consumer plans
- API models with 500k to 1M context at list prices below most frontier rivals
- Free tier exists on web, X and mobile
Cons
- Plan names and prices changed repeatedly in 2026: Lite, SuperGrok, Plus and Heavy at $10, $30, $100 and $300
- The vendor's website blocks automated access, so published terms are hard to verify
- API requests with 200k or more prompt tokens bill every token at double the rate
- Seller of record in the App Store is X Corp. while the copyright is xAI Inc., which muddles who you contract with
Best for
- People who live on X and want trending posts folded into answers
- Users who want image, video and voice generation in one consumer subscription
- Developers who want 500k to 1M-token context models at $1.25 to $2 per million input tokens
Not for
- Enterprises that need a stable, published plan lineup and procurement-friendly terms
- Users who want an assistant that stays away from X's content and discourse
Watch out: App-store subscriptions ($10 Lite to $300 Heavy) are separate from X Premium tiers that also bundle Grok, so make sure you are not paying twice; on the API, a single long prompt flips the whole request to the long-context rate.
