Free Max for Live plugins that generate and transform MIDI drums and melodies inside Ableton Live
Magenta Studio packages Google's Magenta research models as five free Max for Live devices — Continue, Generate, Interpolate, Groove and Drumify — that create or transform MIDI clips directly inside Ableton Live. Typical uses are extending a melody, generating 4-bar phrases, morphing between two clips, or humanizing programmed drums with timing learned from real drummers. It requires Ableton Live 10.1 Suite or newer on Mac or Windows; the older standalone apps still exist but are unmaintained. The code is Apache-2.0 open source and there is nothing to pay for.
Completely free download; open source under Apache-2.0. Requires an Ableton Live Suite license (sold separately by Ableton) to run the plugin version.
Use tool ↗Still the easiest way to put research-grade generative MIDI inside a real DAW workflow, and it costs nothing. It generates MIDI only — no audio — the models predate the current wave of music AI, and you need Ableton Live Suite, which is a significant paid prerequisite.
Watch out: Output is 4-bar-scale MIDI ideas, not arrangements — treat it as a phrase generator, not a songwriting engine.
