What our research says

BA Copilot

BA Copilot is aimed squarely at business analysts who already think in BPMN, turning rough inputs like whiteboard photos into cleaned-up, validated process diagrams. The founder's stated BPMN background is a real differentiator versus general-purpose diagramming AI, and the self-host and API options suggest it's built to fit into existing BA workflows rather than replace them.

Pros

  • Accepts whiteboard photos as direct input, not just typed text
  • Founder has a specific, stated background in BPMN
  • Offers API access, an MCP integration, and self-hosting for teams that need them

Cons

  • Usage is metered in credits with top-up bundles, which makes real monthly cost harder to predict than a flat plan
  • Exact pricing for the Essential and Enterprise tiers wasn't visible without deeper account access
  • Narrow focus on BPMN specifically, not a general diagramming tool

Lucidchart

The default choice for team diagramming: data-linked shapes and layers handle diagrams that outgrow a whiteboard tool, and the integration list means the diagram ends up where the work already happens. Per-seat pricing with a three-user minimum on Team makes it expensive for small groups, and Lucid keeps moving the product's URLs around.

Pros

  • Data-linked shapes with conditional formatting
  • Layers for managing dense diagrams
  • Lucid AI generates and summarises diagrams from prompts
  • Over 100 integrations including Jira, Confluence, Slack and AWS

Cons

  • Free tier caps editable documents to a handful
  • Team plan carries a three-seat minimum
  • Per-seat pricing, and published figures differ across Lucid's own pages
