What our research says

Creately VIZ

The point of VIZ over a standalone diagram generator is that the output lands as editable Creately shapes on a canvas your team already collaborates on, not as a picture you have to redraw. The frustration is commercial: the vendor will not show a price without a browser session, and the free plan's 45-item ceiling kills anything past a toy diagram.

Pros

  • Generated diagrams arrive as editable canvas shapes, not flat images
  • Covers flowcharts, mind maps, concept maps, ER, BPMN, UML, org charts, wireframes and cloud architecture in one product
  • Shapes are data-linked, so diagrams carry notes and records rather than just geometry
  • Exports include PDF and SVG, and enterprise buyers get regional data storage and an on-prem edition

Cons

  • The plans page would not render prices for us, so cost is unknowable without signing up
  • The free plan caps a canvas at 45 items, one folder and two imports
  • No public API for generating diagrams programmatically

Lucidchart

The default choice for team diagramming: data-linked shapes and layers handle diagrams that outgrow a whiteboard tool, and the integration list means the diagram ends up where the work already happens. Per-seat pricing with a three-user minimum on Team makes it expensive for small groups, and Lucid keeps moving the product's URLs around.
