Overview

About Lovable

Lovable writes a React front end and wires it to a hosted back end from a plain description, refreshing a live preview after every edit so the app stays visible while it is being assembled. Supabase covers authentication and data, and the project mirrors into GitHub, so the code leaves with you rather than staying trapped. Work is charged in credits: five a day capped at thirty a month on Free, 100 a month on the $25 Pro plan, with routine edits costing well under one credit each.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Lovable

medium confidence

The cleanest prompt-to-app experience for someone who cannot write React, and GitHub sync means you are not locked in — but 100 credits a month is less runway than it sounds once the app gets real.

Pros

  • Live preview after each change keeps iteration legible to non-developers
  • GitHub sync and Supabase mean the output is real, portable code
  • The free tier is enough to find out whether the idea works
  • Per-action credit costs are published, so estimating is possible

Cons

  • Free tier caps at 30 credits a month regardless of the daily grant
  • Debugging a bad generation can cost more credits than the original build
  • Opinionated stack — React front end, Supabase back end, little room to differ
  • API access is reserved for the Business tier, which charges double Pro's price per credit

Best for

  • Founders and designers shipping a working prototype without a developer
  • Anyone who wants generated code exported to GitHub rather than held hostage
  • Small internal tools needing authentication and a database on day one

Not for

  • Teams maintaining a large existing codebase
  • Projects that need anything outside the React plus Supabase shape

Watch out: Credits are spent on failed and repeated attempts as well as successful ones, so one stubborn bug can eat a large share of the $25 plan's monthly allowance.
