What our research says

HelpCenter.io

A useful add-on for teams already running their knowledge base on HelpCenter.io, since it points ChatGPT at real article analytics rather than working blind. It is not a reason on its own to switch platforms, and it stacks a second subscription on top of the base plan.

Pros

  • Uses the platform's own analytics to flag which articles need rewriting
  • Covers rewriting, translation, category descriptions, and support email drafts in one plugin
  • Base platform bills flat per company rather than per agent
  • 365-day analytics retention on the top plan

Cons

  • Requires both a HelpCenter.io plan and a separate ChatGPT Plus subscription
  • Entry plan is limited to a single team member
  • Only useful if you are already committed to HelpCenter.io as your knowledge base

Intercom

The most complete bet on AI-first support: Fin's per-outcome billing aligns cost with actual resolutions, and the surrounding helpdesk is mature. The catch is the compound bill — seats plus $0.99 per Fin outcome — which at high ticket volume can exceed what flat-rate rivals charge.

Pros

  • Fin charges only when a conversation actually resolves
  • Full omnichannel inbox including phone and WhatsApp
  • 350+ integrations and a documented developer platform
  • Copilot and QA tooling for the human side of the team

Cons

  • Per-outcome fees stack on top of per-seat pricing
  • Advanced workflow features require the mid tier and up
  • Historically criticized for pricing complexity and creep

Which one fits

Choose HelpCenter.io if you need

  • Existing HelpCenter.io customers wanting AI help drafting and translating articles
  • Support teams that want underperforming articles flagged automatically
  • Teams billed per company rather than per agent seat

Choose Intercom if you need

  • Mid-market and enterprise teams automating a large share of tier-1 support
  • Companies that want AI agent, copilot and helpdesk from one vendor
  • Teams on Zendesk or Salesforce that only want Fin bolted on
