What our research says

Gong

Gong is the reference product for conversation intelligence: if you run a sales floor of 20-plus reps and your managers coach from call recordings, it is the tool they will ask for by name. The price is opaque, the platform fee makes it expensive for small teams, and most of the value needs a CRM and calendar integration project up front — so for a five-person team a lighter recorder does the job.

Pros

  • Transcription, deal risk, coaching and forecasting sit on one dataset instead of three tools
  • Public API and OAuth app framework with calls, transcripts, users, stats and CRM upload endpoints
  • Platform fee covers integrations, so connecting the existing stack costs nothing extra
  • Free companion apps for iPhone and Android with deal views, offline call playback and a mobile meeting recorder

Cons

  • No published pricing; every quote is bespoke and layered with a platform fee
  • Recording every customer call raises consent and data-retention work in regulated or EU markets
  • API is rate-limited to 3 calls a second and 10,000 a day by default, which constrains bulk analytics
  • The product has sprawled into engagement and agents, so the core recorder now comes with a bigger suite than many teams need

Ungrind

Ungrind works well when your sales process is mostly video calls: it listens in, writes the recap, and files the pipeline update without extra typing. The catch is it only sees what happens on camera, so any phone call or in-person follow-up still needs a manual note, and the free tier's two-hour cap is tight for daily callers.

Pros

  • Joins calls automatically and writes a readable summary without manual note-taking
  • Updates the pipeline stage based on what was actually said on the call
  • Free plan has no time limit, just a 2-hour/month meeting cap
  • Imports existing contacts from other CRMs to get started

Cons

  • Only supports Google Meet and Microsoft Teams at review time, no Zoom
  • Free tier's 2-hour monthly meeting cap forces an upgrade quickly for active sellers
  • Not a substitute for a CRM with custom fields or team reporting

Which one fits

Choose Gong if you need

  • Sales organisations with dozens of reps who coach from recorded calls
  • Revenue leaders who want forecasts and pipeline risk derived from what was actually said to customers
  • RevOps teams that want call and deal data flowing into Salesforce or HubSpot through a documented API

Choose Ungrind if you need

  • Solo consultants who run client calls on Meet or Teams
  • Small agencies avoiding a full CRM setup
  • Coaches wanting automatic session notes and to-dos
