Use tool ↗About Distill.cv
Distill is a New Zealand-made tool that recruitment agencies use to reformat and anonymize candidate CVs before sending them to a client. It strips names, contact details, photos, and graduation years to reduce bias, reformats the document into the agency's own branded template, and outputs a version compatible with more than 30 applicant tracking systems. Processing is ephemeral, with no CV data retained after the job finishes. Agencies can send files through the web app, the API, or by forwarding an email to a dedicated processing address. A free Chrome-based tool handles unlimited anonymization locally; paid plans start at $49/month for 50 processed CVs.

Pros & cons of Distill.cv
Distill solves a narrow but real recruiting-agency problem, cleaning up inconsistent candidate CVs and stripping bias-inducing details before a client sees them, and it does it fast enough to sit inside a normal submission workflow. It's built specifically for agency and RPO workflows, so an in-house recruiter with lower CV volume may not need a dedicated tool for this alone.
Pros
- Anonymizes names, photos, and graduation years specifically to reduce bias, not just generic formatting
- Ephemeral processing with no long-term storage of candidate data
- Compatible with more than 30 applicant tracking systems
- Free browser-based tool works without an account for basic anonymization
Cons
- Paid tiers charge per CV inside a monthly cap, so cost scales directly with agency volume
- Doesn't screen, rank, or match candidates, purely a formatting and anonymization step
- Overage pricing above the monthly CV cap is noticeably higher than the in-plan rate
Best for
- Recruitment agencies formatting CVs to their own branded template at volume
- RPO providers needing consistent, anonymized candidate documents
- Agencies wanting to reduce unconscious bias in what a client first sees
Not for
- In-house recruiters processing only a handful of CVs a month
- Teams that need the tool to also screen or rank candidates, not just reformat them
Watch out: Per-CV overage pricing kicks in as soon as you exceed the monthly allowance, so a busy month can cost more per CV than the headline plan price suggests.
