What our research says

Cleanup.pictures

Still the fastest free object eraser on the open web when you need one photo cleaned and refuse to make an account. It has been frozen for years though, so anything at print resolution or in volume belongs in its own successor ClipDrop or in Photoshop's generative fill.

Pros

  • no signup or upload queue, usable within seconds of landing on the page
  • $3-5 a month is the cheapest unlimited-resolution inpainting subscription around
  • the inpainting model is documented as an API with samples for Node.js, SwiftUI and Kotlin

Cons

  • the site has not visibly changed since 2022 and still carries the pre-acquisition owner's copyright notice
  • one seat per subscription, with no team or shared billing option
  • output quality now trails newer generative-fill models on anything large
  • free exports are hard-capped at 720px, which is unusable for print

Clipdrop

Still one of the fastest ways to run a single fix on one image without opening an editor or creating a project. The daily caps and the ownership churn are the reasons not to build a workflow on it - Photoroom and Pixelcut are more actively pushed for batch and commerce work.

Pros

  • Each tool is a separate single-purpose page - no project setup, no learning curve
  • Free tier is usable daily rather than a one-time trial
  • Terms permit commercial use of generated images
  • Same capabilities exposed through an API and a Photoshop plugin

Cons

  • Free output is resolution-limited and queued behind Pro users
  • Three owners in four years - Init ML, then Stability AI, then Jasper
  • Pro pricing is not shown until you are in the flow
  • Text-to-image quality has fallen behind dedicated image models

Which one fits

Choose Cleanup.pictures if you need

  • one-off removal of a tourist, sign or timestamp from a photo
  • stripping logos or watermarks from images you already hold the rights to
  • real-estate and product shots that need depersonalising in seconds

Choose Clipdrop if you need

  • One-off cleanups: kill a background, erase a passer-by, extend a crop
  • Designers who want the same models inside Photoshop via the plugin
  • Developers embedding background removal or upscaling through an API
