Overview

About Tabnine

Tabnine sold code completion, chat and agents to teams that needed the model inside their own perimeter, deployable as SaaS, in a customer VPC, on premises or fully air-gapped, with a context engine that indexed GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Perforce repositories so suggestions followed house conventions. On 30 July 2026 Tricentis, the Austin-based software-testing vendor, acquired the company to fold that Enterprise Context Engine into its Agentic Quality Engineering Platform for testing agents. Since then the Tabnine website redirects to Tricentis, the pricing page redirects to a Tricentis contact form and no standalone plans are published, while the documentation site and the VS Code extension remain online.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Tabnine

high confidence

Tabnine was the assistant to pick when compliance would not let code leave the building, and that deployment story is still real for customers already under contract. For a new buyer in October 2026 there is nothing to buy: Tricentis acquired the company in July to power its testing agents, the website and pricing page now redirect to Tricentis, and the editor extension has not shipped an update since January. Treat it as a Tricentis platform component, not a standalone code assistant.

Pros

  • Deployment options that ran all the way to air-gapped, which almost no competitor matches
  • Context engine connected Perforce as well as the usual Git hosts, which matters in games and hardware
  • Documentation and the VS Code extension are still online, so existing installs keep working for now
  • The acquirer states the plan clearly: the context engine becomes part of a testing platform, not a shutdown

Cons

  • The product site, pricing page and sign-up now redirect to Tricentis, with no standalone plan published
  • The VS Code extension's last update is dated 9 January 2026, before the acquisition
  • The acquisition announcement talks only about testing agents, so the future of the code-completion product is unstated
  • No free tier and no individual plan existed even before the deal, so there is no self-serve path at all

Best for

  • Enterprises already on a Tabnine contract who need to plan the transition with Tricentis
  • Tricentis customers evaluating the Enterprise Context Engine inside the quality-engineering platform
  • Regulated teams documenting what air-gapped code assistants looked like before shortlisting replacements

Not for

  • Individual developers or small teams looking for a code assistant they can sign up for today
  • Anyone who needs a published price or a trial before talking to sales

Watch out: Every catalogue entry that still shows Tabnine at $39 per seat describes a product that is no longer sold; budget for a Tricentis conversation and ask in writing how long the standalone assistant will be supported.
