What our research says

HireVue

HireVue is built for employers screening thousands of applicants a year who need interviews, assessments and scheduling in one audited system that will survive a procurement and legal review; its explainability statement and fairness studies exist because its AI scoring has been scrutinised for years. A company hiring a few dozen people a year has no need for it and could not buy it without a sales cycle anyway, and candidates still report the one-way video format as impersonal.

Pros

  • Covers screening, interviewing, assessment and scheduling in one platform with 45-plus ATS integrations
  • Publishes an AI explainability statement and cites more than 2,000 model fairness maintenance studies
  • Twenty-plus years in the market, 80 million interviews run and large named customers such as IKEA and Nestlé
  • SOC, ISO and FedRAMP certifications, which matter for public-sector and financial employers

Cons

  • No published pricing or trial; everything starts with a demo request
  • Automated video and voice scoring is still contested by candidates and regulators, so legal review is part of adoption
  • Heavy for anything below several thousand applications a year
  • The facial-analysis episode, dropped in 2020, still shapes how candidates perceive the product

SortResume

A focused screening tool for small hiring teams drowning in applications, with an API so it can be wired into an existing ATS rather than replacing it. The pricing is per-resume in disguise - $119 for 100 a month works out at over a dollar per CV, which stops making sense at any real volume. The bigger caveat is governance: automated resume scoring is regulated in a growing number of jurisdictions and this vendor does not publish a company, a country, or working terms of service.

Pros

  • Returns a ranked shortlist scored against the specific job criteria
  • API access included on both paid tiers, not sold as an add-on
  • Free tier of 10 resumes a month makes evaluation possible
  • Straightforward volume tiers with no seat counting

Cons

  • Effectively over $1 per resume at the entry tier
  • No company entity, address or country published
  • The linked terms-and-conditions document has been deactivated by its host
  • No published accuracy or bias-audit data

Which one fits

Choose HireVue if you need

  • Enterprises with high-volume hourly, campus or call-centre hiring that need structured, asynchronous screening
  • Talent teams in regulated industries that must document how AI is used in selection decisions
  • Organisations replacing phone screens with an AI voice interviewer available 24/7

Choose SortResume if you need

  • small teams screening dozens rather than thousands of applicants
  • bolting a ranking step onto an existing ATS via API
  • one-off hiring pushes for a single role
