Two fact sheets from our own research, side by side — pricing, platforms, API access and status re-checked by us rather than quoted from the vendors. Gamma starts at $8, Prezi at $7. Both have a free tier. Only Gamma ships a public API.

What our research says

Gamma

The tool that genuinely displaced PowerPoint for a lot of people, and it is profitable enough not to need your money — but credits, not seats, decide how much a plan is actually worth.

Pros

  • Layout and image choice happen without picking a template first
  • One document publishes as a deck, a doc or a live web page
  • Plus at $8/user/month already removes the Gamma badge
  • Profitable at over $100M ARR, so the vendor is not a runway risk

Cons

  • Credit accounting is opaque — a premium image can cost up to 125 credits
  • API keys are locked to Pro and above
  • The free plan's 400 signup credits do not go far on image-rich decks
  • Export fidelity to PowerPoint degrades on complex layouts

Prezi

Prezi is the one presentation tool that is not a PowerPoint clone, and the zooming canvas still earns its keep for talks where you move around a structure instead of marching through it. The AI drafting is competent but it is not the reason to be here. Billing is the irritation: individual plans are annual-only, they auto-renew, and the free tier watermarks everything.

Pros

  • Zooming, non-linear canvas rather than a slide sequence
  • Prezi Video overlays content on a live webcam feed
  • AI drafts structure from a brief or an imported PPTX, PDF or DOCX
  • Exports back out to PPTX and PDF

Cons

  • Individual paid plans are billed annually only
  • Free tier watermarks output and has no AI credits
  • AI credits are capped on the $7 Standard tier
