What our research says

Autoppt

Autoppt is aimed squarely at people who need a real .pptx file rather than a web-only deck, and the ability to change template after generation is a genuinely useful escape hatch. The catch is a free tier so thin, one deck total, that it barely counts as an evaluation.

Pros

  • Exports to PPTX, PDF and images with unlimited downloads on paid plans
  • Template can be swapped after generation without redoing the content
  • Bundled summariser, mind maps and PDF tools on the same subscription
  • Interface localised into more than a dozen languages

Cons

  • Free tier permits a single deck generation
  • No public API, so it cannot be wired into an existing workflow
  • Little disclosed about the company beyond a Chinese registration

Gamma

The tool that genuinely displaced PowerPoint for a lot of people, and it is profitable enough not to need your money — but credits, not seats, decide how much a plan is actually worth.

Pros

  • Layout and image choice happen without picking a template first
  • One document publishes as a deck, a doc or a live web page
  • Plus at $8/user/month already removes the Gamma badge
  • Profitable at over $100M ARR, so the vendor is not a runway risk

Cons

  • Credit accounting is opaque — a premium image can cost up to 125 credits
  • API keys are locked to Pro and above
  • The free plan's 400 signup credits do not go far on image-rich decks
  • Export fidelity to PowerPoint degrades on complex layouts

Which one fits

Choose Autoppt if you need

  • Students and office workers who must hand over an editable PowerPoint file
  • Turning an existing report or PDF into slides without retyping it
  • Non-English decks, given the wide interface language coverage

Choose Gamma if you need

  • Anyone who needs a presentable deck out of rough notes in minutes
  • Teams publishing one-page sites and documents without a website tool
  • Users who want AI layout but expect to keep editing afterwards
