What our research says

Alai

Alai leans on a persistent brand design system rather than generating each deck from scratch, which should matter most to teams producing many decks that need to look related. The free tier is usable for testing but watermarks output and caps prompts at 10 slides, so evaluating the design-system angle properly requires paying for Plus or above.

Pros

  • Reusable brand design system, not a fresh style per generation
  • Supports both manual editing and AI re-prompting on the same output
  • Covers infographics and social graphics in addition to slide decks

Cons

  • Free tier output is watermarked and capped at 10 slides per prompt
  • No company location or leadership information published
  • Custom deck-building services start at $1,500, well above the software subscription itself

Gamma

The tool that genuinely displaced PowerPoint for a lot of people, and it is profitable enough not to need your money — but credits, not seats, decide how much a plan is actually worth.

Pros

  • Layout and image choice happen without picking a template first
  • One document publishes as a deck, a doc or a live web page
  • Plus at $8/user/month already removes the Gamma badge
  • Profitable at over $100M ARR, so the vendor is not a runway risk

Cons

  • Credit accounting is opaque — a premium image can cost up to 125 credits
  • API keys are locked to Pro and above
  • The free plan's 400 signup credits do not go far on image-rich decks
  • Export fidelity to PowerPoint degrades on complex layouts

Which one fits

Choose Alai if you need

  • Teams that produce many decks and want consistent branding across them
  • Founders and executives without in-house design support
  • Users who want to touch up AI output manually as well as by re-prompting

Choose Gamma if you need

  • Anyone who needs a presentable deck out of rough notes in minutes
  • Teams publishing one-page sites and documents without a website tool
  • Users who want AI layout but expect to keep editing afterwards
