Use tool ↗About Browser Use
Browser Use runs agents inside managed Chromium sessions in the cloud. You either hand it a task in plain language and collect the finished work, or drive the browser yourself through Python and TypeScript SDKs, a REST API, or a CDP endpoint that Playwright, Puppeteer and Selenium already speak. The service adds session persistence, structured outputs, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, workflow replay, stealth handling and residential proxies across 195-plus countries. The underlying browser-use Python library is open source and installable with pip. The company was founded in 2024 by Magnus Müller and Gregor Žunič, is based in San Francisco, and went through Y Combinator.

Pros & cons of Browser Use
The MIT-licensed open-source library made the category legible, and the hosted service is the practical way to run it at scale without babysitting Chromium instances; CDP compatibility means existing Playwright or Puppeteer code points at it with a config change. Billing is now pure pay-as-you-go with no subscription, so light users pay cents while heavy proxy traffic or frontier models add up fast.
Pros
- MIT-licensed open-source library underneath, so you are not locked into the hosted service
- CDP-compatible endpoint works with existing Playwright, Puppeteer and Selenium code
- No subscription: credits from $5 never expire, and new sign-ups get $1 free
- Concurrency starts at 10 sessions and rises automatically with lifetime spend
- Models from several providers, or your own key
Cons
- Real cost depends on browser-minutes, proxy GB and model tokens, with a 20% fee on tokens
- Residential proxy is on by default at $5/GB, which adds up quickly on media-heavy sites
- Company founded only in 2024, so its operational track record is short
Best for
- Running web automation without maintaining your own browser infrastructure
- Teams already on Playwright, Puppeteer or Selenium via the CDP endpoint
- Agent workflows needing session persistence, replay and human checkpoints
Not for
- Teams that need a fixed monthly bill, since everything is metered
- Self-hosters who want the managed features; the open-source library is the browser driver, not the platform
Watch out: Residential proxies are on by default at $5/GB versus $0.20/GB direct, so switch them off where a site does not need them; the service also advertises CAPTCHA solving, which you should check against the terms of any site you automate.
