Use tool ↗About ego (lite)
ego (lite) is a Chromium-based desktop browser built specifically for AI coding agents to drive web automation using the same logins, cookies, and extensions as your everyday Chrome profile, without touching your open tabs. Agents work inside separate Spaces and interact with pages through compressed semantic snapshots rather than raw HTML, which the vendor says reduces token usage and speeds up multi-step tasks compared with a generic automated browser. It is built by Citro Labs, a US company, is free with no configuration required, and has an open-source (MIT licensed) companion repository on GitHub, though the browser app itself ships as free, closed-source software. It currently runs on macOS only, with Windows and Linux support listed on the roadmap.

Pros & cons of ego (lite)
ego (lite) solves a real annoyance for developers using coding agents: it lets an agent browse the web with your actual logged-in sessions instead of starting from a blank, unauthenticated browser. Running it as a separate browser rather than a Chrome extension keeps agent activity from interfering with your own tabs. It is macOS-only today and, like any tool that shares your logged-in sessions with an autonomous agent, needs the same caution you'd apply to any agent with access to authenticated accounts.
Pros
- Free with no account or configuration required
- Imports Chrome bookmarks, passwords, extensions, and sessions in one step
- Keeps agent browsing isolated from your own tabs via separate Spaces
- Uses compressed page snapshots instead of raw HTML to cut token usage
Cons
- macOS only at launch; Windows and Linux are still on the roadmap
- Sharing logged-in sessions with an autonomous agent carries real security exposure if the agent misbehaves
- Small, early-stage vendor rather than an established browser company
Best for
- Developers using coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) that need real browser sessions
- Anyone automating tasks on sites that require being logged in
Not for
- Windows or Linux users, since only macOS is currently supported
- Teams uncomfortable giving an AI agent access to authenticated sessions and stored passwords
Watch out: The browser is designed to share your real logged-in sessions, including finance and shopping sites, with an AI agent; review what an agent can access before pointing it at sensitive accounts.
