AutoGPT began in 2023 as an experiment in letting GPT-4 break a goal into steps and work through them alone; the hosted product is now pitched as a team of AI Experts for jobs such as prospecting, SEO writing, LinkedIn posts and inbox triage, coordinated by a chat agent called Otto. Pros & cons of AutoGPT
The project that started the autonomous-agent wave is now sold as a roster of named AI specialists you brief in chat, with the low-code workflow builder still underneath. Self-hosted it remains a strong, free agent platform for internal use; the cloud version is expensive once you add the credits that actual workflow runs consume.
