What our research says

AutoGPT

The project that started the autonomous-agent wave is now sold as a roster of named AI specialists you brief in chat, with the low-code workflow builder still underneath. Self-hosted it remains a strong, free agent platform for internal use; the cloud version is expensive once you add the credits that actual workflow runs consume.

Pros

  • Open source outside the platform directory, with a very large contributor community
  • Self-hosting is free for internal use and runs on Linux, macOS or Windows through WSL 2
  • Prebuilt Experts plus a visual block builder and marketplace lower the starting effort
  • Public REST API, MCP tool support and per-Expert spending caps on the cloud plans

Cons

  • Cloud Pro at $42.50 to $50 a month still needs pay-as-you-go credits for workflow runs
  • Polyform Shield on the platform directory rules out commercial redistribution
  • Cloud pricing jumps from Pro to $272 or more for Max with nothing in between, and the Team plan is still marked coming soon

Relevance AI

A credible no-code agent builder with a wide library of ready-made sales and ops agents, but the free tier is gone and the self-serve prices live on a docs page while the marketing site pushes everyone to a sales call. The two-meter billing — Actions plus pass-through Vendor Credits — makes running cost hard to forecast, and the $19 annual Pro plan only covers one project and two builders.

Pros

  • Agents get tools, knowledge and schedules without any code
  • Large library of pre-built agents for sales, support, HR and ops that can be customised
  • Model cost is passed through on vendor credits rather than marked up
  • Agents can be grouped into teams that hand work between each other

Cons

  • No free plan any more, only paid Pro and Team or an Enterprise quote
  • Two simultaneous meters make budgeting awkward and surprises likely
  • Top-up rates are steep at $80 per 1,000 actions
  • Pro is limited to one project and two build users, so a second workspace means the $349 Team plan

Which one fits

Choose AutoGPT if you need

  • Teams that want to self-host an agent platform and own the infrastructure
  • Solo operators who would rather brief a prebuilt specialist in plain English than design an automation
  • Developers who want workflows they can also create and trigger through a REST API

Choose Relevance AI if you need

  • Ops and go-to-market teams automating repetitive research or outreach
  • Companies that want working agents without hiring engineers to build them
  • Workloads where per-task cost matters more than per-seat cost
