Use tool ↗About Scholarcy
Scholarcy reads a PDF, Word file or web article and returns a structured flashcard covering the paper's claims, methods, findings and limitations, with key figures and tables pulled out. It links each cited work to an open-access copy where one exists, builds a background reading list, and exports to Word, Excel and reference managers. Imports run from Dropbox, Google Drive and RSS, and a browser extension summarises whatever article is open.

Pros & cons of Scholarcy
The strongest option when you need a consistent structured breakdown of a specific paper you already have. It is a summariser, not a discovery engine, so it does not replace Elicit or Consensus for finding what to read.
Pros
- Flashcard structure (claims, methods, limitations) is consistent enough to compare papers side by side
- Citation links resolve to open-access copies, saving a separate hunt
- Exports to Word, Excel and reference managers rather than trapping output in the app
Cons
- Extraction quality drops on badly formatted or scanned PDFs
- Free tier's roughly 10 summaries a month runs out within one review session
- Site is behind aggressive bot protection, which makes automated or scripted use awkward
Best for
- Postgraduates screening a pile of PDFs before deciding what to read fully
- Building a literature matrix across a set of papers
- Librarians and study-skills teams wanting an institutional licence
Not for
- Searching the literature or answering a research question from scratch
- Papers behind a login or paywall, which the extension cannot process
- Anyone who needs the summary to be quotable without checking the source
Watch out: Texthelp acquired Scholarcy in November 2024, so the roadmap now sits inside an accessibility and edtech parent rather than an independent research startup.
