Token-metered image workspace with fine-tuned model presets
Leonardo.Ai generates images and video against a catalogue of in-house and community fine-tunes, with canvas editing, upscaling, texture tools and training on your own image sets. Everything runs on tokens, and different models and resolutions burn them at different rates. Canva has owned it since 2024, and the same models now sit behind Canva's own generation features.
Free gives 150 tokens a day. Apprentice is $8.33/mo on annual billing, $12 month-to-month, for 8,500 tokens; Artisan $20 on annual, $30 month-to-month, for 25,000; Maestro $40 on annual, $60 month-to-month, for 60,000; with a rollover bank up to 75,000 on the mid tier and queue and concurrency limits that rise with the tier. Teams starts around $24 a seat. API access is a separate product line with its own pricing, and the Essential tier is bundled into Canva Business.
Use tool ↗Leonardo is the generator to pick when you need control over the model rather than one house style, and it is the only major one with a real API and custom training. Token accounting is the tax you pay for that flexibility.
Watch out: Canva acquired Leonardo in July 2024 for a reported $320M+ and the models now power Canva's own AI features. The standalone app is still developed, but it is a subsidiary product line: assume feature direction follows Canva rather than the Leonardo community.
