What our research says

Leonardo.Ai

Leonardo is the generator to pick when you need control over the model rather than one house style, and it is the only major one with a real API and custom training. Token accounting is the tax you pay for that flexibility.

Pros

  • Large library of fine-tuned model presets instead of a single opinionated model
  • Custom model training on your own images is available without an enterprise contract
  • A genuine documented API, which the obvious competitor still does not have
  • Free tier of 150 daily tokens is enough to evaluate properly

Cons

  • Token costs differ by model, resolution and feature, so per-image cost is hard to predict
  • 150 free tokens go in roughly ten generations
  • Concurrency and queue position are tier-gated, so cheap plans wait
  • Roadmap now serves Canva's product priorities, not standalone power users

LoRA AI

One subscription across a dozen image and video models, with LoRA training included, is a reasonable deal for someone who would otherwise juggle three accounts. The training turnaround of 15 to 30 minutes from a small reference set is the practical draw for character consistency. Be careful with the credit maths: 120 credits on the $9.90 plan does not go far once video models are in the mix, and training is gated to the $49.90 tier and above.

Pros

  • One credit balance spans FLUX, Qwen, Seedream, MidJourney and GPT Image plus several video models
  • Custom LoRA training from 10 to 20 images in 15 to 30 minutes
  • Background removal, upscaling and batch runs included rather than sold separately
  • 50 free credits with no card required

Cons

  • LoRA training only appears on the $49.90 Ultra tier and above
  • Credit cost per model is not published, so 120 credits is an unknown quantity
  • No company name, country or legal entity anywhere on the site
  • No API, so it cannot be wired into a pipeline

Which one fits

Choose Leonardo.Ai if you need

  • Game and product teams that need consistent assets from a fine-tune they control
  • Anyone who wants generation, canvas editing and upscaling in one place
  • Developers who need image generation behind an API rather than a chat window
  • Users who want to train a model on their own reference set

Choose LoRA AI if you need

  • Creators who need one character or style repeated across many images
  • People who want to compare several image models without separate subscriptions
  • Light video generation alongside stills
