What our research says

Hootsuite

Hootsuite suits marketing and customer-care teams that manage many brand accounts and need publishing, a shared inbox, listening and reporting in one contract, with AI drafting built in. At $99 per user a month before monthly-billing markup, it is expensive for solo creators and small businesses that only need to schedule posts.

Pros

  • Covers publishing, inbox, listening, analytics and employee advocacy in one suite
  • Wisdom AI is included in every plan, connected to the account's own social data
  • Unlimited social accounts from the Professional plan
  • Long track record and broad network support

Cons

  • Per-user pricing starts at $99 a month on annual billing, high for small teams
  • Standard caps you at 10 social accounts
  • No free plan; the trial limits daily posts and disables bulk scheduling

Postiz

The rare scheduler where the escape hatch is real: same code, AGPL licence, Docker compose, and the maintainer says the hosted build has no extra features. If the price rises or the project stalls you move to your own server. The cost is that you are relying on one maintainer, and the hosted entry plan at $29 is not cheap for five channels.

Pros

  • AGPL-3.0 source on GitHub with Docker self-hosting, ~35k stars
  • Maintainer states hosted and self-hosted builds are functionally identical
  • 30+ networks including Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Discord and Warpcast
  • OAuth2, SDK, REST API and MCP for programmatic posting
  • n8n, Make.com and Zapier integrations

Cons

  • Hosted Standard is $29/month for only 5 channels and 400 posts
  • Effectively a one-maintainer project, so roadmap and support depend on one person
  • No company entity or country published
  • AGPL is a real constraint if you want to embed it in a closed product

Which one fits

Choose Hootsuite if you need

  • Mid-size and enterprise social teams managing many accounts and approvals
  • Brands that combine publishing with customer care and social listening
  • Regulated organisations that need SSO and compliance options on Enterprise

Choose Postiz if you need

  • Agencies and creators who want an exit from Buffer-style lock-in
  • Developers wiring posting into agents over MCP or the REST API
  • Teams comfortable running Docker to avoid a subscription
