Overview

About Glasp

Glasp is a browser extension and mobile app for highlighting text on articles, PDFs, YouTube transcripts and Kindle books, with each passage saved alongside its source, author, URL and date. Highlights land in one searchable library sorted by tag and author, and sync or export to Notion, Obsidian, Roam, Markdown, CSV and JSON. The AI layer summarises articles, PDFs and videos, answers questions grounded in what you have saved, and an MCP connector hands your highlights to ChatGPT or Claude. Highlights are public by default, which powers a social feed of what other readers mark. It is made by Glasp Inc. in San Francisco.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Glasp

high confidence

Glasp fits students, researchers and writers who read a lot online and want every quote kept with its source and searchable later. People who want their reading private by default, or who mostly need a full note editor rather than a highlighter, should look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Free plan keeps unlimited highlighting plus exports and Notion sync
  • Works across Chrome, Safari, Edge, Brave, Firefox, Opera and mobile
  • Each highlight keeps its source metadata, so quotes stay cited
  • MCP connector and API make the library usable from other AI tools

Cons

  • Highlights are public by default; privacy is a paid feature
  • Free AI allowances are small, especially video summaries
  • Social feed is of limited use to people who read alone

Best for

  • Students and researchers collecting cited passages across the web and PDFs
  • Writers keeping a swipe file of quotes for drafting with ChatGPT or Claude
  • Readers who want Kindle and web highlights in one library

Not for

  • Anyone who needs highlights private without paying
  • Users who want a full note-taking editor with documents and databases

Watch out: Highlights are public unless you are on Pro, Unlimited or the free university Student plan, and the pricing FAQ states that cancellations are not refunded except where law requires.
