ElevenLabs

The quality bar for synthetic speech and the easiest voice API to start on, but the credit meter is the actual product and it empties faster than the plan names imply.

Pros

  • Output quality and language coverage remain ahead of most rivals
  • One account spans speech, dubbing, recognition, effects and agents
  • The first paid tier is $6, so testing commercially costs almost nothing

Cons

  • Credits rather than minutes, so cost per finished second shifts with model and settings
  • Commercial licence and instant cloning are both withheld from the free tier
  • Professional voice cloning starts only at Creator ($22)
  • Team seats do not appear until the $299 Scale plan

Podcasty FM

A narrow tool that does one job: converting an existing blog into a two-voice podcast with a working RSS feed, which is the part most text-to-audio tools skip. The two-host format carries better than a single narrator, but every episode is derivative of a post you already published. Pricing is low enough that it is worth trying on a content archive before deciding.

Pros

  • Publishes a genuine RSS feed, so Spotify and Apple Podcasts can pick the show up
  • Two-host dialogue format rather than a single synthetic narrator
  • Embeddable player puts the audio back on the source article
  • Free tier of three episodes a month is enough to hear the voice quality

Cons

  • Free episodes carry vendor branding and are capped at three a month
  • Content is only as good as the post it was generated from — no original reporting
  • Nothing but the LLC name is disclosed about the vendor; no address or country
