What our research says

Cursor

The default choice for developers who want agentic coding inside a real editor, with cloud agents, PR review and multi-model access that large engineering orgs have already standardized on. The catch is the bill: agent-heavy use runs past plan allowances and overages are billed in arrears, so costs need active monitoring.

Pros

  • Agents work with repository-wide context, in-editor and in the cloud
  • Multi-model access includes frontier models plus in-house Composer
  • Free Hobby tier exists for trying agent workflows
  • Widely adopted in large enterprises, so tooling and docs mature fast

Cons

  • Real monthly cost is elastic once usage-based pricing kicks in
  • Pro+ and Ultra pricing is shown only through a plan selector, hurting comparability
  • Proprietary editor lock-in versus plain VS Code with extensions

Verdent

Parallel agents over one repository is the real feature, and getting into it from a Mac app, two IDE families and a Slack message covers most ways people actually work. Credits are the tax: the $5 tier is a token, and serious use lands at $59 or above, though bring-your-own-key softens that.

Pros

  • Runs multiple agents in parallel while holding the whole project in context
  • Native Mac app plus VS Code and JetBrains extensions
  • Slack and Telegram triggers for starting work away from the editor
  • Top-up credit packs do not expire
  • Bring-your-own-key and eco mode cut the credit cost

Cons

  • Desktop app is Mac only, Apple Silicon or Intel
  • Credits, not usage minutes, so cost per task is hard to predict
  • The $5 Lite tier does not publish its credit allowance
  • No public API
