What our research says

Conductor

A tidy control room for developers who already use terminal coding agents and want to run several at once with clean isolation and a review step. It adds orchestration rather than its own model, so you still pay your agent providers. Anyone happy with a single agent in an editor will not gain much.

Pros

  • Free tier with local workspaces and bring-your-own subscriptions or keys
  • Each task isolated in its own workspace and branch
  • Supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode agents
  • SOC 2 Type II badge shown on the site

Cons

  • Desktop app is Mac-only
  • Cloud workspaces need the paid Pro plan
  • Cloud compute pricing is expected to move to usage-based billing

Cursor

The default choice for developers who want agentic coding inside a real editor, with cloud agents, PR review and multi-model access that large engineering orgs have already standardized on. The catch is the bill: agent-heavy use runs past plan allowances and overages are billed in arrears, so costs need active monitoring.

Pros

  • Agents work with repository-wide context, in-editor and in the cloud
  • Multi-model access includes frontier models plus in-house Composer
  • Free Hobby tier exists for trying agent workflows
  • Widely adopted in large enterprises, so tooling and docs mature fast

Cons

  • Real monthly cost is elastic once usage-based pricing kicks in
  • Pro+ and Ultra pricing is shown only through a plan selector, hurting comparability
  • Proprietary editor lock-in versus plain VS Code with extensions

Which one fits

Choose Conductor if you need

  • Developers juggling several features or bug fixes with coding agents at once
  • Teams that want agents in cloud sandboxes with shared, live workspaces
  • Claude Code and Codex users who want a diff-and-PR workflow around them

Choose Cursor if you need

  • Professional developers running agents on large existing codebases
  • Teams that want code review, cloud agents and editor in one subscription
  • VS Code users wanting a familiar editor with deeper AI integration
