Cursor vs notes.asm

Two fact sheets from our own research, side by side — pricing, platforms, API access and status re-checked by us rather than quoted from the vendors. Cursor publishes a starting price ($20); notes.asm does not. Both have a free tier. Only notes.asm ships a public API.

What our research says

Cursor

The default choice for developers who want agentic coding inside a real editor, with cloud agents, PR review and multi-model access that large engineering orgs have already standardized on. The catch is the bill: agent-heavy use runs past plan allowances and overages are billed in arrears, so costs need active monitoring.

Pros

  • Agents work with repository-wide context, in-editor and in the cloud
  • Multi-model access includes frontier models plus in-house Composer
  • Free Hobby tier exists for trying agent workflows
  • Widely adopted in large enterprises, so tooling and docs mature fast

Cons

  • Real monthly cost is elastic once usage-based pricing kicks in
  • Pro+ and Ultra pricing is shown only through a plan selector, hurting comparability
  • Proprietary editor lock-in versus plain VS Code with extensions

notes.asm

notes.asm goes further than a code-completion assistant: it takes a ticket, ships a PR, and has a second agent QA that PR in a real browser before a human looks at it. Being free during alpha makes it worth trying, but alpha also means the reliability and pricing that will apply later aren't settled yet.

Pros

  • A second agent QAs each PR against a real preview deploy with screenshots and video
  • Per-workspace memory means later jobs skip re-discovering login flows and conventions
  • Understands ticket dependencies and waits rather than creating merge conflicts

Cons

  • Alpha-stage product, pricing and long-term reliability aren't established yet
  • Site blocked direct automated access during this research, so some detail relies on indexed content rather than a direct read

Which one fits

Choose Cursor if you need

  • Professional developers running agents on large existing codebases
  • Teams that want code review, cloud agents and editor in one subscription
  • VS Code users wanting a familiar editor with deeper AI integration

Choose notes.asm if you need

  • Engineering teams wanting to offload well-scoped tickets to an autonomous agent overnight
  • Teams already using Claude via MCP who want a coding agent wired in directly
  • Projects where PR review time is a bottleneck and automated QA screenshots would help
