Hosted workspace for Beancount plain-text ledgers, with a web UI, mobile apps, and an AI-agent API.
Beancount.io wraps the open Beancount plain-text accounting format in a hosted workspace: a browser dashboard for entering transactions, generated reports, and Git-backed version history for every change to the ledger file. It adds a mobile app for iOS and Android, a command-line tool, and REST, GraphQL, and Model Context Protocol interfaces so a script or AI agent can read and write entries. The GitHub organization behind it is bex-co. The product is free and open source under the MIT license; there is no paid tier listed, and self-hosting via Docker is an alternative to using the hosted site.
The hosted app and mobile clients are free and open source under the MIT license; no paid tier is published.
Use tool ↗Beancount.io is a real option for anyone who already likes plain-text, double-entry bookkeeping and wants a nicer interface than raw text files, without giving up Git history or scriptability. It is not aimed at people who want a normal bank-synced budgeting app.
