What our research says

Submagic

The quickest route from a talking-head recording to captioned vertical clips, and the caption styling is what people actually pay for. If you already cut in Premiere or DaVinci, their built-in speech-to-text plus one saved template gets you most of the way for nothing.

Pros

  • caption presets track short-form trends rather than looking like generic subtitle burn-in
  • transcript-based trimming is far faster than scrubbing a timeline
  • the Business tier exposes an API so the pipeline can be automated
  • 4K/60fps export at the top tier, which most caption tools cap below

Cons

  • quotas count finished videos, not minutes, so short clips waste allowance
  • clip-length ceilings of 2 minutes on Starter and 5 on Pro rule out most podcast episodes
  • API access is gated behind the $69 tier
  • everything on the free plan carries a watermark

Zeemo

Solid on the thing it originally did — fast burned-in captions across a very wide language list — and the mobile apps mean you can do it without a laptop. The generation features are a thin wrapper over other people's models, so judge it on captions rather than on the model list. Watch the credit maths: the free tier's 120 credits a year is a demo, not a free plan.

Pros

  • Captions and translation across roughly 95 languages
  • Native iOS and Android apps alongside the web studio
  • Cheap entry: $8 a month on annual billing removes the watermark and unlocks 1080p
  • Bundles transcription, translation and video editing in one place

Cons

  • Free tier is 120 credits a year, which is nearly nothing
  • Video length capped at 1 minute free and 3 minutes on Pro
  • The generation features are resold third-party models, not Zeemo's own
  • No API yet, and storage retention is only 3 to 30 days by tier

Which one fits

Choose Submagic if you need

  • agencies and podcasters slicing one long recording into a week of shorts
  • creators who want caption styles that match what is currently working on short-form feeds
  • non-English content, since transcription covers a wide language set

Choose Zeemo if you need

  • Burning styled captions onto short-form clips quickly
  • Subtitling or translating content across a wide language set
  • Creators who want to caption on a phone rather than in a desktop editor
