Photo-based calorie counter with adaptive targets and a published accuracy benchmark.
PlateLens logs food through photo recognition, barcode scanning, voice or manual search, then estimates calories and more than 80 micronutrients per meal. It recalibrates a user's daily calorie target automatically based on logged data rather than leaving the target fixed, and pairs logging with an AI coach that adapts its style to the user. The app syncs with Apple Health and Google Health Connect, and adds Apple Watch support for voice logging. PlateLens cites an independent accuracy study putting its calorie estimate error at about 1.1 percent across 180 weighed meals, later reproduced on a further 231 meals by a separate benchmark. It is made by VisionTech Solutions LLC, founded in 2024, and runs on iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and the web.
Free plan allows a limited number of AI photo scans and coach messages per day. Premium removes those caps for $9.99/month or $59.99/year, with a 14-day free trial.
Use tool ↗PlateLens backs up its accuracy claim with an independent study rather than just asserting it, which sets it apart from most photo-based calorie counters that don't publish any validation. Multi-source logging and health-app syncing cover the basics well, but the AI coaching and adaptive targeting are locked behind the $9.99/month Premium tier.
