Overview

About MagicSchool AI

MagicSchool is a bank of more than 80 task-specific tools for teachers - lesson and unit plans, rubrics, texts rewritten to a reading level, IEP drafts, parent emails, quizzes and written feedback on class work - plus Raina, a chatbot for instructional coaching. MagicStudent gives pupils 50-plus tools inside activities a teacher assigns and monitors, and the school tier adds SIS and LMS integrations, single sign-on, moderation controls and data dashboards for districts. It works alongside Google Docs, Classroom and Canvas. Founded in Denver in 2023 by Adeel Khan, the company has raised about $60M and sells a free teacher plan, a Plus plan from $8.33 a month billed annually, and district contracts.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of MagicSchool AI

medium confidence

MagicSchool wins on breadth and on fitting the shape of a teacher's week: each tool asks for the grade, standard and length a teacher is already thinking in, so the output lands closer to usable than a general chatbot's. The free plan is genuinely useful, and the district tier is why it keeps appearing in procurement. Its weakness is the same as every prompt-wrapper's - the quality of a levelled text or rubric still needs a teacher's eye, and the pupil-facing tools only make sense where the school has set the guardrails first.

Pros

  • More than 80 teacher tools and 50-plus student tools shaped around real classroom tasks
  • Permanent free plan rather than a trial
  • School tier adds SSO, SIS and LMS integration, moderation and dashboards
  • Plus is cheap at $8.33 a month on annual billing

Cons

  • Free-plan generation limits are not published on the pricing page
  • Output still needs checking against the curriculum and the class - it is a drafting aid, not a substitute
  • Quizzes and writing feedback are flagged as a preview with an end date, so their plan placement may change
  • No public API; integrations are limited to the named platforms

Best for

  • Classroom teachers who want planning, differentiation and parent communication drafts in one place
  • Districts that need SSO, SIS and LMS integration and moderation controls before letting pupils use AI
  • Special-education and EAL staff producing levelled and adapted materials at volume

Not for

  • Higher-education or corporate trainers; the tools, standards and tone are built for K-12
  • Teachers who want one open chat window rather than a form per task

Watch out: The annual Plus price is the headline; paying monthly costs $12.99, 56% more, and school-wide use needs the quoted Enterprise tier for student data agreements.
