What our research says

IconCraft

A single-task tool priced like one: $9 buys 20 icon generations outright with no recurring charge, which suits the actual usage pattern - you need an app icon once, then not again for a year. Having an API is unexpected at this size. It is clearly a solo project, with a personal email as the only support channel and no company entity behind it, so plan for the possibility that it disappears.

Pros

  • Outputs production-ready icons at iOS and Android sizes
  • Accepts a text description, an uploaded logo, or a style reference as the starting point
  • One-time credit packs instead of a subscription
  • API with its own console at console.iconcraft.app
  • 30-day refund policy stated in the terms

Cons

  • Free playground gives only a single credit
  • No company entity or country published - support is one personal email address
  • Terms forbid reselling generated icons as standalone products
  • Single-purpose: no wider brand or asset tooling

Recraft

The tool to reach for when the output has to be a real vector or has to match a style across fifty assets, which is where general image models fall apart. For one-off photorealistic images other models are at least as good, and the free tier is a showcase rather than a workspace since everything you make there is public and not yours commercially.

Pros

  • Native vector output that opens as editable SVG, not a traced raster
  • Saved styles keep a whole set of assets consistent
  • Canvas tools for mockups, background removal and inpainting, plus a Figma integration
  • API priced per image in prepaid units that never expire

Cons

  • Free-plan images are public and Recraft keeps the rights to them
  • Subscription credits do not roll over month to month
  • Vector generations cost twice the credits of raster ones
  • Plan table on the pricing page renders only in a browser; the docs carry the numbers
