Overview

About Hello8

Hello8 transcribes and translates uploaded video or audio in more than 90 languages and times the subtitles automatically. An AI Reviewer then reads each line against the picture and the sound and leaves comments where something looks wrong, such as a wrong tense or a line that drifted from the original, which you accept or dismiss in one click inside an editing studio. Checks for reading speed, line length and overlaps run alongside, and a linguist review is offered as an optional extra step. Output is SRT, VTT, ASS, TXT or an MP4 with burned-in subtitles. It is run by a small Paris company and processes data on European cloud infrastructure.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of Hello8

medium confidence

Hello8 sits between raw auto-captioning and a localisation agency: machine transcription and translation, followed by an AI pass that points at the lines most likely to be wrong so an editor only reviews those. That is a real time saver for teams that already check subtitles by hand, and the European hosting suits EU buyers. The catch is cost: the reviewer bills five credits a minute, so a reviewed hour of video eats most of a Starter allowance.

Pros

  • AI Reviewer comments on likely errors line by line, with one-click accept or dismiss
  • 90-plus languages for transcription and translation
  • Exports SRT, VTT, ASS, TXT or an MP4 with burned-in subtitles
  • Optional linguist review when a file must be right
  • Data processed on European cloud infrastructure under GDPR terms

Cons

  • The AI Reviewer costs 5 credits per minute, so reviewed video burns credits six times faster than transcription alone
  • Video-length caps per plan: 5 minutes free, 30 minutes on Starter
  • Prices quoted in euros only, so the dollar cost moves with the exchange rate

Best for

  • Video and communications teams that publish subtitled content in several languages and review it in-house
  • EU organisations that want subtitle data processed on European infrastructure
  • Editors who want suspect lines flagged rather than reading every subtitle from scratch

Not for

  • Creators who only need quick auto-captions for short social clips, where free tools suffice
  • Long-form producers on a tight budget, given the per-minute reviewer cost and the 30-minute cap on Starter

Watch out: Plans were reshaped this autumn: Starter now carries 300 credits a month (half the earlier allowance) and Pro costs EUR 69 a month on yearly billing, up from EUR 59, so check old quotes against the current page.
