Use tool ↗About GitBrain
GitBrain is a native macOS Git client that uses AI to help with the parts of Git that are tedious to do by hand: splitting a messy set of changes into logical commits and writing automatic summaries of what changed. It also auto-detects IDE projects and offers keyboard shortcuts aimed at developers who want a faster, more native alternative to using Git from the terminal or a general-purpose GUI client. The app currently requires macOS 12.0 or later and is distributed through the developer's own store rather than the Mac App Store. It is free for beta users, and no paid pricing tier has shipped yet as of this review.

Pros & cons of GitBrain
GitBrain's AI commit-splitting and change summaries target a real annoyance for developers who batch too many changes into one commit, and being a native Mac app rather than an Electron wrapper is a point in its favor for feel and speed. It's early: free-beta status, no Mac App Store listing, and no public roadmap for pricing make it a bet on a small, unproven team.
Pros
- AI-assisted commit splitting from a single messy diff
- Automatic summaries of code changes
- Native macOS app rather than a cross-platform wrapper
- IDE project auto-detection
Cons
- Mac only, no Windows or Linux version
- Free-beta pricing means costs could change once beta ends
- Distributed outside the Mac App Store through the developer's own checkout, with less built-in trust signal than an App Store listing
Best for
- Mac-only developers who want a native Git GUI instead of the terminal
- Anyone who routinely has to split a large diff into logical commits
- Developers who want automatic plain-language summaries of their own changes
Not for
- Windows or Linux developers, since this is Mac-only
- Teams needing a mature, widely-adopted client with a large plugin ecosystem
Watch out: Beta pricing is free today, but the vendor has not published what happens to cost or features once the beta period ends.
