Overview

About delta.dev

Delta is a collaborative workspace for coding with agents, built by Zed Industries, the team behind the Zed editor. You describe a task in a thread, an agent works in an isolated checkout of your repository, and you review the result with the conversation, reasoning and every edit kept next to the code, so a change can be traced back to why it was made or reverted to any step. Teammates and agents can work in the same thread, and comments on a specific passage feed the next revision. It is in beta, with desktop builds for macOS, Linux and Windows plus a web version, and it shares accounts, plans and credits with Zed.

Editorial verdict

Pros & cons of delta.dev

medium confidence

Delta comes from the team behind the Zed editor and targets the real bottleneck of agent-assisted work: reviewing what an agent changed together with the conversation that produced it. It has moved past the waitlist into a downloadable beta for macOS, Linux, Windows and the web, free with your own keys and $10 a month for hosted models. It is still early-access software, so expect the workflow and limits to keep changing.

Pros

  • Built by the team behind the Zed editor, with the same account and plans
  • Keeps the reasoning and every edit of a thread attached to the code, with revert to any step
  • Free Personal plan works with your own API keys or external agents
  • Desktop builds for macOS, Linux and Windows plus a web version

Cons

  • Still beta, downloaded under an Early Access Agreement
  • Pro includes only $5 of hosted-model tokens a month before usage billing starts
  • Zed's edit predictions are not available inside Delta

Best for

  • Teams already using Zed who review a lot of agent-written code
  • Developers who want each change tied to the prompt and reasoning behind it
  • People who already pay for model API keys and want a free agent workspace on top

Not for

  • Teams that need a generally available tool with support commitments today
  • Developers on Intel Macs, since the macOS download is Apple Silicon only

Watch out: The $10 Pro headline covers just $5 of hosted-model tokens; long agent sessions are billed by usage on top, so set a spending limit in your Zed account.
