What our research says

Formula Bot

If you came looking for the free Excel formula generator that went viral in 2022, that product no longer exists in the same shape — it is now a paid analytics workspace and lives on a different domain. As an analytics tool it is fine for spreadsheet-scale work and outclassed by real BI above that.

Pros

  • keeps native Excel and Google Sheets add-ons rather than forcing everything into a web app
  • 15-plus connectors including Snowflake, Postgres, MySQL, Airtable and Google Analytics
  • dashboards can be embedded in a site via an iframe snippet
  • entry plan is $18/month, well under most BI seat pricing

Cons

  • the $18 Starter tier is capped at 250 chat messages a month
  • per-user pricing above Starter gets expensive for a team quickly
  • the original formula-generation use case is now a small part of a bigger product
  • no API, so it cannot be scripted into a pipeline

SheetGod

Broader than the usual formula bot: as well as formulas it writes VBA macros, Apps Script and regex, which covers the awkward middle ground where a spreadsheet user needs actual code. The Sheets add-on means you do not leave the document. Against that, the pricing is invisible until you register and the product sits at the edge of BoloForms' attention, which is really an e-signature company.

Pros

  • Covers formulas, VBA, regex and Apps Script, not just formulas
  • Works against both Excel and Google Sheets
  • Google Workspace Marketplace add-on with over 13,000 installs
  • Generated code comes with step-by-step tutorials

Cons

  • No published pricing anywhere — every pricing URL on the site 404s
  • A side product of an e-signature company, not the main line
  • The Marketplace listing has not been updated since June 2023

Which one fits

Choose Formula Bot if you need

  • analysts who live in Excel or Google Sheets and want formulas explained, not just produced
  • small teams wanting charts and scheduled reports without standing up a BI stack
  • one-off questions against a CSV or a Postgres table

Choose SheetGod if you need

  • Spreadsheet users who need a nested formula they cannot write themselves
  • Automating repetitive Sheets or Excel work without learning Apps Script or VBA
  • Generating a regex for a cleanup pass over a column
