Use tool ↗About SciFig
SciFig, now at version 3.0, makes scientific figures in three tools: Illustration turns text, sketches, reference images or PDFs into mechanism, pathway and workflow diagrams; DataChart plots CSV or Excel data as journal-style charts with downloadable Python code; FlowChart builds diagrams from templates with native SVG editing. Every label and shape stays editable, and exports cover PPTX, layered SVG and high-resolution PNG/JPG. A public API and a remote MCP server let figures be generated from code or AI assistants. It is aimed at researchers in biology, chemistry and materials science; the operating company is not named on the site.

Pros & cons of SciFig
Handy for researchers who need a clean mechanism or pathway diagram fast and would otherwise fight with a general vector editor. The credit system rewards light, occasional use; anyone producing figures constantly for a lab will burn through the free tier quickly and need to budget for a subscription.
Pros
- Six input modes and six publication styles to match journal conventions
- Every element stays editable after generation, not a flat image
- Exports to PPTX, layered SVG, and 8K PNG/JPG
- Public API and MCP server for generating figures from code or an AI assistant
Cons
- Credit-based pricing makes heavy use expensive to predict
- Company behind the product is not disclosed on the site
- Best experience requires a desktop browser, not mobile
Best for
- Researchers who need a journal-style diagram without illustration skills
- Turning a described process into an editable figure for a slide deck or paper
Not for
- Highly custom or novel figure styles outside the six publication templates
- Heavy daily use without a paid credit plan
Watch out: Plus and Pro show a struck-through monthly price next to the yearly rate; the cheapest $8.33 figure needs a $100 up-front yearly payment, and month-to-month Starter is $19.90.
