Use tool ↗About ScamCheck Grok
ScamCheck Grok is a free browser tool that reviews a photo, screenshot or live-camera capture of an email, letter, text or advert and writes a scam assessment: the fraud family it matches, whether the contact was solicited, how far along the scheme you are, whether money already sent can be recovered, and a risk score. It runs on your own xAI API key, which is stored only in the browser and sent straight to xAI, so the operator charges nothing and xAI bills about two cents per scan. This edition accepts images only and refuses PDFs; a sibling edition built on Claude handles PDF documents. It comes from Iacoletti Software, a small developer that also sells movie-making apps.

Pros & cons of ScamCheck Grok
A no-subscription way to get an AI second opinion on a suspicious message or document, provided you are willing to set up your own xAI API key. It is a small, single-purpose tool from an indie software shop rather than a dedicated fraud-detection company, so treat its output as a second opinion, not a verdict.
Pros
- No subscription cost from the tool's own operator
- Files pass directly between the browser and the AI provider rather than being stored by the developer
- Takes photos, screenshots or a live camera capture and names the fraud family, a risk score and whether money sent can be recovered
- Comes from a developer with a track record of several similar working tools
Cons
- Requires setting up and funding your own xAI API key before first use
- Very thin public documentation on this specific tool's page
- Not a substitute for reporting a scam to a bank or authority
- PDFs are refused in the Grok edition because the xAI API reads images only; the Claude edition is needed for PDFs
Best for
- People who already have or do not mind creating an xAI API key
- One-off checks of a suspicious screenshot, email, or PDF
- Users who want their files to go directly to the AI provider rather than a third-party server
Not for
- Anyone wanting a ready-to-use tool with no setup
- Organizations needing an audited, liability-backed fraud-detection service
- Bulk or automated scanning of many documents at once
Watch out: Setting up billing on your own API key means a wrong or repeated scan could rack up small charges you would not notice with a flat subscription.
