Use tool ↗About RewriteCmd
RewriteCmd is a macOS utility, made by Hyperstack Studio, that rewrites selected text inside whatever app you're using — email, Slack, Notion, an IDE — without switching windows. You highlight text, press a global hotkey, and the rewritten version is pasted back using your own Claude, OpenAI, or Mistral API key, stored locally in the macOS Keychain rather than on a remote server. The free plan includes one custom instruction shortcut with core rewriting; a $5 monthly Pro plan adds unlimited instruction shortcuts and custom rewrite tones. It requires macOS Ventura (13) or later and runs on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Pros & cons of RewriteCmd
RewriteCmd's whole value is staying out of the way — no browser tab, no copy-paste round trip, just select text and hit a hotkey. Storing API keys locally in the Keychain instead of routing them through a vendor server is a real, checkable privacy choice, but it also means you need your own API key and are paying the model provider separately from the $5 app fee.
Pros
- Works inside any Mac app via a global hotkey rather than a single integration
- Supports three model providers (Claude, GPT, Mistral) instead of locking you into one
- API keys stay local in the Keychain rather than passing through the vendor's own servers
Cons
- Requires bringing and paying for your own API key on top of the app's $5/month fee
- macOS 13+ only — no Windows, Linux, or mobile version exists
Best for
- Mac users who rewrite text across many different apps and want one shortcut everywhere
- Anyone who already has a Claude, OpenAI, or Mistral API key and wants a lightweight front end for it
Not for
- Windows or Linux users — this is macOS-only
- Anyone who doesn't want to manage and pay for their own model API key separately
